The California Department of Education provides the CalSCHLS system and public data dashboards with high quality data to support efforts of student academic performance, social-emotional, behavioral, and physical health of all youth. Gay Lesbian and Straight Education Network’s (GLSEN) 2017 National School Climate Survey

  • 70% of LGBTQ pupils nationwide reported being called names or threatened based on their sexual orientation

  • 1 in 4 LGBTQ pupils reported physical harassment based on their gender expression 48% reported cyberbullying
  • 35% of LGBTQ pupils report missing school because they felt unsafe or uncomfortable

  • 10% missing four or more full days in the month immediately preceding the survey

  • Harassment goes unreported
